About OBRESS

Inspiring the next generation of property professionals

The Oxford Brookes Real Estate Student Society is an independent society at Oxford Brookes University. The society operates as a limited company by guarantee, allowing it to run independently of the Student Union and giving the committee total and entire control over operations.

OBRESS is more than just a society; it's a platform. OBRESS provides members with the opportunity to network internally, with alumni and with some of the property industry's leading professionals. We have hosted events from early careers introductions, inter-university rugby matches, and guest lectures from CEOs.

Most importantly, OBRESS values its members. If you have ideas, suggestions or even just some advice, we are always happy to help out.

Some History

A long, long time ago, OBRESS was made, and generations enjoyed it. To this day, we are unsure if it was really about real estate, as all we hear are stories of the good old days and "The time we went to a ball and got kicked out of a hotel.

Alas, a pandemic shut down the nation, alongside it, OBRESS fell dormant.

However, the story doesn't end here. In 2025, three students, Will Johnson, George Robertson and Jago Prest had the idea to relaunch it, but this time make a bit more about real estate, but still a lot of fun. They wanted to make it bigger and better than before, and they did. From what started as a dream of a website, sponsors, spreadsheets and gilets, soon became the biggest society at Brookes whilst maintaining a small nod to it's somewhat informal past.

Mission.

Our mission is to equip students to thrive in the real estate industry by providing practical learning and direct exposure to live projects and professionals. We build on lecture theory through panel discussions, networking events, site visits, weekly and monthly industry articles and much much more.

The Gaps We Fill

Access Gap

Many students lack the networks needed to find mentors and get internships and work experience. A key issue we’re striving to change with OBRESS.
